A spooky, haunted church in the middle of the Santa Monica Mountains? Nah – it’s a very cool, famous filming location in Agoura Hills, accessible to the public on national park property.
Paramount Ranch is a historical, free park / recreation area near Malibu that was once famous for its large “western town” movie-set on permanent display, until the 2018 Woolsey Fire sadly destroyed most its structures – except the church and train depot (pictured below); both built for HBO’s “Westworld”. Fundraising efforts are underway to rebuild the western town.
As for today, visitors can come freely explore the church and train depot, as well as hike, mountain bike, and horse ride throughout the surrounding hills and countryside; many great photo opportunities and wonderful wildlife to see.
